All-State

Zack Balzer

Zack Balzer, Class of 2023, finished 18th, at the 2021 IHSA 3A State Championships, to lead the Minooka XC team to a 13th place team finish. He covered the course in 14:47.9. This was Zack's first state meet, as he served as an alternate during his freshman year, and due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the state meet was not contested during his sophomore season.

Zack has also experienced a ton of success on the track. He was a member of the runner 4 X 800m relay team in 2021 and has qualified for state in the 1600m run in 2022.

Mackenzie Callahan

Mackenzie Callahan, Class of 2017, finished in an impressive 4th place at the 2016 State XC meet. This performance by Mackenzie helped the Indians to a third place team trophy. During her senior season, Mackenzie was also the Regional and Sectional Champion. She was also All-Regional at Nike Cross Regional meet and helped the team qualify for NXN where the Nook finished 16th. In her senior track season, Mackenzie finished as a state runner-up in the 1600m Run with a time of 4:54.22 Mackenzie will graduate from Minooka with 3 State Individual XC medals, 1 Track All-State medal, and two XC state trophies.

Callahan finished in 20th at the 2015 IHSA 3A State Championship with a time of 17:03 helping Minooka to the team championship. Mackenzie also earned All-Conference, All-Regional, and All-Sectional honors.

During her sophomore year, Mackenzie finished 15th at the IHSA 3A State Championship with a time of 17:11 helping Minooka to an 8th place finish as a team. During her sophomore track season, Mackenzie qualified for state in the 800m run. She ran a 2:16.84 at the sectional championship. Mackenzie also won the 800m run and the 1600m run at the SPC Championships. This All-State performance capped a season in which Callahan also won the IHSA 3A Regional.

During her freshman year in Cross Country, Mackenzie finished in 56th place with a time of 18:06. That spring, in track, Callahan qualified for state in the 1600m run after running 5:12.29, placing third, and meeting the state standard. She was the SPC champion in the 1600m run, as well.

Tom Clennon

Tom Clennon, Class of 1978, finished 11th at the 1977 IHSA 1A State Championship with a time of 15:16, helping Minooka to third place as a team, the highest in school history. He had the flu at the time of the race.

The previous year, Clennon finished third at the IHSA 1A State Championship as an individual. His time was 14:54. He was the first Minooka runner to win All-State honors in cross country two times

Both his junior and senior years, Clennon was the individual champion at the Northeast Conference Championship. He also won the District meet his junior and seniors years and the Sectional his junior year.

Clennon also had a fine track career. His senior year, he was third in the 880-yard run (1:52.60) at the IHSA 1A State Track and Field meet. His junior year, he was a state champion in both the 2-mile run (9:22.42) and the mile run (4:21.42). As a sophomore, he was part of a 2-mile relay team (8:06.20) that finished sixth.


Clennon played basketball his freshman and sophomore years, as well.

Dan Daly

Dan Daly, Class of 1978, finished fifth at the 1977 IHSA 1A State Championship with a time of 14:58, leading Minooka to third place as a team, the highest in school history.


He called his run at Detweiller Park “the race of his life.” Daly, in his fourth year of running cross country for the Indians, steadily progressed throughout the season.


He also finished third at the Northeast Conference Meet.


Daly was a multi-sport athlete in high school. At 6'6". he played basketball for four years and baseball during his freshman and sophomore years. His junior and senior years he ran track.

Soren KNudsen

Soren Knudsen, Class of 2017, closed out his HS XC Career with an incredible State Championship in a time of 14:02! This is the fastest time at Detweiller for a Minooka athlete, and the first individual state championship in the Minooka program. During his senior XC season, Soren also won the Normal West Invite, the Minooka Flight Invite, the Twilight Invite, the SPC Conference, the Normal Regional, and the Edwardsville Sectional. In the spring of 2017, Soren completed the triple crown by winning the 3200m run State Title (9:03.41) and the 1600m run State Championship (4:10.51). One week later at the Magi's Miles, Soren ran a full mile in a time of 4:05.58.

During his Junior year, Soren finished 11th at the 2015 IHSA 3A State Championship with a time of 14:36, leading Minooka to 16th place as a team.

This All-State performance capped a season in which Knudsen also won the Minooka Flight Invite, the SPC Championship, the Regional, and the Sectional. These performances propelled the team to a Regional Title and the program's first ever Sectional Title. Knudsen went on in the spring to earn a 3rd place medal in the 1600m run with a time of 4:17.10. A week later Soren went down to St. Louis and ran a full mile in 4:10.17.

In 2014, Soren Knudsen qualified for the IHSA state meet after an injury riddled season in which he only was able to get a few races under his belt. He finished in 163rd place with a time of 15:48. He also qualified for the 2015 IHSA Track and Field Championships in the 3200m Run and finished in 20th place with a time of 9:32.63.

Knudsen, a multisport athlete, is also a member of the swim team.

Joe McAsey

Joe McAsey, Class of 2011, finished ninth at the 2010 IHSA 3A State Championship with a time of 14:34, leading Minooka to 12th place as a team.

This All-State performance capped a short but remarkable cross-country career for McAsey. He didn’t join the team until his junior year, when he also qualified for the state meet with a team that would finish 25th. He was the top finisher for the Indians, finishing 83rd that year in a time of 15:40.

McAsey, a multi-sport athlete, participated in football his freshman and sophomore years; basketball his freshman, sophomore, and junior years; volleyball his freshman and sophomore years; and track and field his junior and senior years.

He qualified for the IHSA 3A State Track and Field meet as junior in 800m run and 4x800m relay. The relay set a school record time of 7:54.77, while McAsey himself was fourth in the 800m.

During his senior year of cross country, McAsey set Minooka course records at nine different courses, including Minooka’s home course and Detweiller Park, home of the state meet. He won both the SPC Conference meet and IHSA 3A Regional, leading the team to victory in both.

His senior year at the IHSA 3A State Track and Field meet, McAsey anchored the 4x800m relay team that won the state championship with a time of 7:43.42. He finished third in the 800m and anchored the 4x400m relay team that finished 9th. A few weeks later at the Midwest Distance Gala, McAsey won the 800m with a come-from-behind victory in 1:50.8.

Joey Santillo

Joey Santillo, Class of 2013, finished 16th at the 2011 IHSA 3A State Championship with a time of 14:48, leading Minooka to 13th place as a team.

This All-State performance capped a season in which Santillo also won the conference meet and the Regional. He was the top runner for Minooka in each meet he ran in.

In 2012, he finished 14th at the 3A State Championship with a time of 14:40. The team finished 16th. With that race, he became only the second Minooka runner to earn All-State honors twice. Santillo also won the conference meet and the Regional meet for the second year in a row. He set a new Minooka course record at Channahon Community Park in 14:54 during the Minooka Flight Invitational.

Santillo, a multi-sport athlete, has run cross-country and track each year of high school. He was also a member of the sophomore basketball team.

He qualified for the IHSA 3A State Track and Field meet as a sophomore in 1600m run and 4x800m relay. The relay won the state championship and set a school record time of 7:43.42. Joey was also part of 4x800m relay as a junior that finished 5th at state.

Emily Shelton

Emily Shelton, Class of 2018, capped off her HS XC career with a 3rd place finish at the 2017 state meet. She finished in third place at the 2016 IHSA State XC Championships with a time of 16:42. Emily led the Indians to the 3rd place team trophy. Emily was also the SPC Champion during this Junior season.She was also All-Regional at Nike Cross Regional meet and helped the team qualify for NXN where the Nook finished 16th. In track, Emily earned another State Medal with a 4th place finish in the 3200m Run.

Emily finished 19th at the 2015 IHSA 3A State Championship with a time of 16:59, helping Minooka to the State Championship.

This All-State performance capped a season in which Shelton earned All-Conference and All-Sectional honors. During Emily's sophomore track season, she qualified for the state finals in both the 1600m & 3200m run. Her 1600m time of 5:00.29 was a school record and she placed third in the state in the 3200m run.

During Emily's freshman year, she placed 29th at the State Meet with a time of 17:31, helping Minooka to 8th place as a team. In track and field Emily qualified for the state meet when ran a 5:08.00 at the Naperville North sectional. She was the SPC champion in the 3200m run, as well.


Ashley Tutt

Ashley Tutt, Class of 2017, finished in 17th place at the 2016 State Cross-Country meet. This performance by Ashley helped the Indians to a third place team trophy. She was also All-Regional at the Nike Cross Regional meet and helped the team qualify for NXN where the Nook finished 16th. Ashley also qualified for state in the 3200m run for all four years. Ashley will graduate from Minooka with 3 State Individual XC medals, two state track medals, and two state trophies.

Ashley finished 4th at the 2015 IHSA 3A State Championship with a time of 16:36 leading Minooka to the State Championship. This was Ashley's second all-state medal in cross-country.

This All-State performance capped a season in which Tutt also won the Minooka Invite, the Macnider Invite, the Sterling Invite, the SPC Championship, the IHSA 3A Regional, and the IHSA 3A Sectional.

During Ashley's sophomore year, she finished 6th at the IHSA 3A State Championship with a time of 17:01 leading Minooka to an 8th place as a team. This All-State performance concluded a season in which Tutt also won the SPC Championship and the IHSA 3A Sectional. During her sophomore year in track, Tutt finished 7th in the 3200m run with at imd of 10:54.55. In 2013, Tutt finished 26th at the IHSA 3A State Championship, missing All-State honors by just one place. Here she lead the team to a 6th place finish.

During her freshman year, in track, Tutt qualified for state in the 3200m run after placing 2nd at sectionals with a time of 11:00.96. She was also All-Conference in the 1600m and 3200m in track.

Vivian van eck

Vivian Van Eck, Class of 2019, finished 23rd at the 2016 IHSA 3A State Championship with a time of 17:20 helping Minooka to a third place team trophy. During Vivian's senior year, she won a conference championship and finished 6th in the state with a lifetime best of 16:37 over the 3 mile Detweiller course.

This All-State performance capped a season in which Vivian earned All-Conference, and All-Sectional honors.

Vivian was the key 5th runner on the 2015 State Champion team. Her freshman year, she ran a 17:51 and finished in 66th place. Vivian was a member of a state qualifying 4 X 800 Relay during her junior year. Her senior year, she qualified for the state track and field meet in the 3200m run.
