The first Epsilon Beta club was organized at Washington High School, Washington, Missouri, in 1931, by a teacher, Leona Evans. During the 1968-1969 school year, interested librarians and students expanded Epsilon Beta to a statewide organization.
The emblem includes the club motto, "Keepers of the Library", the name Epsilon Beta, a book and a torch. The yellow background represents loyalty and honor, and the green, youth and hope.
Georganna Krumlinde, a Library Media Specialist at Troy Buchanan high school was the leader of the organization for many years. R. Jill Williams served as a co-director with Mrs. Krumlinde for the 2016 - 2017 school year, and then Ms. Williams took over for the 2017 - 2018 school year. During the 2019 - 2020 school year, the club received official status with the state as an organization.
This year, the club is being revised again to bring the group into the future of the library. A committee is being formed to run the organization so that the work can be shared among a group of people. Be on the cutting edge of creating the new Epsilon Beta Library Club!
If you are interested in starting a club in your high school or middle school, contact Ms. Williams. If you are interested in being a part of the committee, let her know.
