All certified staff at Lakeview Elementary actively engage with the STEM Leadership Team, a collaborative group of administrators and teachers, to provide valuable feedback on decisions related to planning and implementing the school’s STEM program. This high level of participation ensures that the program reflects the collective expertise and insights of educators, fostering a well-rounded and effective approach to STEM education. Feedback is collected in a variety of different ways including electronic surveys, individual conferences, whole faculty discussions, and small group conversations.  

Lakeview teachers are supported with dedicated weekly common work time during PLCs to collaboratively plan integrated STEM learning opportunities.  In addition, grade level teams have common planning time daily.  Additionally, weekly collaboration sessions with the STEM Leadership Team provide a platform for deeper alignment and strategic input, ensuring a cohesive and innovative approach to STEM education. 

Lakeview has established a comprehensive five-year STEM certification sustainability plan, outlining sources to support technology, curriculum, and training needs resulting from staff turnover. STEM remains a top priority for Monroe County Community School Corporation, demonstrated through ongoing investments in professional development, resources, curriculum, district-level staffing, and financial support to ensure the program’s long-term success and impact. 

At Lakeview, formal measurements of students' attitudes toward STEM and their interest in STEM classes are conducted at least twice each school year. These measurements utilize locally-created survey to collect student’s ideas about Lakeview’s STEM program overall as well as specific activities and lessons (i.e. STEM to Them activities). Data from these surveys is thoroughly analyzed to assess student engagement and identify areas for improvement. Based on the findings, the STEM program is revised and adjusted to better align with student interests and needs. This ongoing evaluation ensures the program remains dynamic and responsive to student feedback, fostering a more engaging and effective STEM learning environment.

At Lakeview Elementary, student engagement in STEM is cultivated through active partnerships with parents, educational leaders, and community organizations. The school employs a variety of strategies to reflect on, promote, and expand its STEM program, ensuring that it remains aligned with the interests and needs of the community. These strategies include conducting surveys, hosting STEM-focused community forums, celebrating STEM community partners, and bringing STEM professionals into classrooms to guide authentic problem-solving experiences. These activities not only engage the community but also create a vibrant, collaborative environment that fosters student interest and participation in STEM fields.

Effective STEM instruction relies on a robust framework for feedback and support, guided by documented indicators. Evaluation criteria are developed through modifications of local evaluation tools or STEM-specific walkthrough instruments to identify targeted instructional practices. All evaluators are trained to observe these practices using the local tool, ensuring consistent and reliable feedback in both formative and summative evaluations. Additionally, at least 75% of teachers receive three or more forms of support based on evaluator feedback, such as peer observation, lesson study, critical feedback, coaching, modeling, action research, or mentoring. This comprehensive system ensures continuous improvement and alignment with STEM teaching goals. 

Lakeview Elementary is dedicated to providing a comprehensive STEM education to all students, with 100% of our student body participating in integrated STEM instruction and programming. This instruction occurs in addition to related arts classes and is seamlessly incorporated into the school schedule. Our STEM program is designed to foster problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity across all grade levels. Notably, reading and writing instruction is embedded within the content areas of STEM and social studies, ensuring students develop literacy skills while engaging with meaningful, real-world topics. For students who need additional support, we provide push-in services during the protected STEM time, ensuring they can access the curriculum without disruption. Intervention, Resource, and remediation pull-out services are scheduled during our dedicated intervention period, called "Pride," or during small group math instruction. This strategic scheduling enables all students, regardless of special education status, gender, race, or economic background, to fully participate in our STEM program. Our curriculum maps guide instruction across grade levels, ensuring a coherent and sequential STEM experience that builds essential skills for future success.
