MISSION
Lakeview Elementary creates an inclusive, student-focused culture where strong relationships within our school community are built on our commitment to having open communication, equitable access, and consistent, culturally responsive routines. We are committed to honoring and celebrating the traditions of Lakeview Elementary, both old and new, where embracing the diverse and unique talents of our student body will help prepare them for our collective future.
VISION
Our vision is to inspire all students to become compassionate members of our community, to reach and expand their potential, and to become respectful, creative, and driven individuals who excel both academically and socially.
CONNECTION BETWEEN MISSION/VISION AND INDIANA'S PRIORITIES FOR STEM EDUCATION
Lakeview Elementary School believes in connecting the school’s vision and mission to Indiana's Priorities for STEM Education. The Indiana Priorities are: 1) Refine STEM pedagogy with research-based best practices, 2) Develop STEM leaders and educators, and 3) Increase access to STEM courses, programs, and resources. Lakeview’s commitment to incorporating STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education through the lens of STEM to Nature, including outdoor and environmental education, is prevalent in their lesson planning and instruction.
Lakeview Elementary is located in the rural community in the southside of Monroe County, Indiana, near Lake Monroe. Lakeview is about a 20-minute drive from Bloomington, Indiana, home of Indiana University. Lakeview teachers integrate STEAM, and often with a STEM to Nature focus, in daily lessons which are accessible to all students, through research-based instruction, including inquiry, problem-solving, and engineering and design principles. Lakeview teachers regularly seek out and engage in partnerships and professional development surrounding best practices in STEM education utilizing school and district-level coaches, community partners, higher education, and other professional development opportunities. Training and partnerships with Indiana University, Department of Natural Resources, and the Forest School Teacher Institute provides rich opportunities for students.
