There are multiple theories as to how the Indus Valley Civilization ended around the year 1500 BC. Here are a few ideas...
Some believe they were defeated by the Aryans, a nomadic group from Central Asia that later settled in the region. There have been some evidence found with groups of skeletons in positions of flight as well as evidence of burned settlements. However, many archaeologist see evidence of decline within the ancient cities of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa before the Aryans would have arrived.
Another theory consist of the notion that earthquakes and other natural forces caused major rivers to change course. In turn, this caused severe flooding and drying up of other regions. Rapid changes in types of pottery suggest a series of migrations into and from the region, which may have been highly disruptive for the Indus Valley cities. Some cities and villages were abandoned as people moved eastward towards the fertile valley of the Ganges River.
