In our building, we service students K-12 with moderate to severe autism, but many of our students are multi-diagnosis. These students are highly exceptional in a variety of physical and cognitive ways- so accomodating those needs in the form of playground equipment will require a large financial committment.Â
Our campus does not have playground equipment. At all.
Adaptive playground items are very expensive. We're talking upwards of $300,000. Obviously that is a huge feat- but we feel that our students and all the students to come deserve to play outside on equipment that is made especially for their needs.
So far, we have hosted a pizza fundraiser and a bowling fundraiser to try and raise funds to cover these costs. We are so proud of how many businesses donated baskets or gift certificates in order to contribute to raising the funds and feel that this event was very successful!
Thus far, we have raised $17,000 out of the total $300,000 needed.
We will continue to coordinate fundraising efforts but welcome any and all ideas that you feel may contribute to our goal of adaptive playground for our students!
