Amendments to Annex VI of MARPOL states that, from 1^st January 2023 all ships over 400 GT must calculate and report their Energy Efficiency Index, which must be periodically lowered in line with the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) reference curve. These changes are on top of existing measures that relate to fuel efficiency and show the increasing regulatory pressure being put on owners and operators.
