Enjoy Physical Activity? Want to learn more about how the body works and the theory behind Physical Education, Health and Outdoor Education? This course is a lead into 11PPD and students that choose to take Personal and Physical Development (PPD) will have the opportunity to develop their self-motivation, resilience and perseverance, interpersonal skills, self-management, participation and contribution, leadership, and wellbeing through both practical physical activity and theory in class lessons.
This will be taught using a range of contexts including but not limited to; modified and minor games, problem-solving activities, sport-specific fitness and skill training, other physical challenges, and classroom-based activities. Students will also learn the value of working effectively in groups through understanding the importance of group dynamics. This course is a great lead in to 11PPD and is for anyone who enjoys being active, is keen to push themselves out of their comfort zone, and wants to develop their ability to work effectively with others.

Chosen as an option, each year 10 student has an opportunity to explore the following themes:
Snacks - Compare and contrast homemade snacks to commercial snacks via sensory and financial analysis methodology Burgers and business - in conjunction with Serial Griller we explore factors involved in running a profitable and successful business, burger design and quality service culminating in a burger competition where the winners go on to the Waikato Culinary Fare. Top 10 recipes for life – as well as practicing these recipes we investigate the nutritional needs of the different stages in life from birth to death.
Community food - We apply the above learning to our community and explore the many applications for catering in our community in both a non- profit, profitable and social enterprise context. Sports Nutrition – we look at the nutrients and foods to enhance your sporting capabilities, how to make their own sports drinks, and meals before and after a sporting session. Celebrations – we finish the year polishing our practical skills producing celebration food.
