Chapter Book Review

The book The Fire Within was written by Chris D'Lacey in 2001. It is about this tenant David Rain, who goes to a house that is renting out rooms. The people who own the house are Elizabeth Pennykettle and her daughter Lucy. Elizabeth, also known as Liz, makes clay dragons. Lucy is in love with squirrels. It mystifies David but Liz and Lucy talk about the clay dragons as if they're real. David has to help Lucy find a one-eyed squirrel named Conker while dealing with his clay dragon Gadzooks. Gadzooks have a clay pencil to chew on and a notepad to write on. In the end Conker dies in the library garden.

Children Book Review

Elephants cannot dance is our favorite kids book. This is because it is funny, and sends a good message out to kids. The message this book gives is that you should always follow your dreams, even if they seem unreachable. The other reason is this book shows kids that you should always try new things, even if they are scary. This book is also funny, and the animals in the illustrations are adorable! This book is by Mo Willems (real name is Maurice Charles Willems) and is part of the popular series Elephant and Piggie. Elephants Cannot Dance is about Piggie trying to convince Gerald to learn how to dance, but Gerald is certain that elephants cannot dance. Gerald tries many times, but stays persistent and in the end, Gerald realizes that elephants can dance, you just have to keep trying.

Author of the Week

Carl Hiaasan has written many books but his most popular book series is the 5 book group with the books Hoot, Chomp, Scat, Flush, and Squirm.

Here is a summary of the books.

Hoot: Everyone should love Mother Paula's pancakes. Except, that is, the cute endangered owls that live on the building site of the new pancake place. Can the new kid and his runaway friend prank the pancake people out of town? Or is the owls’ fate buried under the new restaurant.

Flush: The Coral Queen casino boat is treating the ocean very badly, so Noah's dad decides to sink the boat. The problem is there's no evidence of illegal dumping. Now his dad’s in jail, the boat's back in business, and only Noah can flush the truth out into the open.

Scat: The most terrifying teacher in school is missing in the Everglades, and it's up to Nick and Marta to find her. But first they'll have to make a deal with a junior arsonist, a wannabe Texas oilman, and an upset Florida panther. It's all about to hit the fan, and when it does, these kids better scat.

Chomp: When Wahoo Cray's dad, a professional animal wrangler, takes a job with a reality-TV survival show, Wahoo figures he'll have to do a bit of wrangling himself to keep his father from killing the show's inept and egotistical star. But the job keeps getting more complicated-and it isn't just the animals who are ready to chomp.

Squirm: This summer, Billy will fly across the country, hike a mountain, float a river, dodge a grizzly bear, shoot down a spy drone, save a neighbor's cat, save an endangered panther, and then try to save his own father. Can he do it or will he fail and end up in trouble.
