The Math Learning Center created the Bridges University Program because we share your belief in the value of using instructional materials to develop prospective and preservice teachers’ content and pedagogical content knowledge.
This site supports you in using our materials in your courses (content, methods, and integrated content and methods) and fieldwork. It is organized around three Instructional Activity Types(1):
Learning Content and Pedagogy,
Approximating Instructional Practice, and
Using Materials with Integrity.
Each section offers several ways you might engage prospective and preservice teachers in seeing the connection between your course content and the mathematics they will teach. These activities center responsiveness to student thinking and offer prospective and practicing teachers opportunities to develop a vision for ambitious mathematics teaching practices (also referred to as high-leverage, research-informed, evidence-based, effective, and equity-based practices; c.f. AMTE, 2017 & 2024; Aguirre et al., 2024; CBMS, 2026; NCTM, 2020 & 2024), all while seamlessly integrating mathematics content and pedagogy through the analysis and use of TK-12 curriculum materials.
