Simulate instructional practice that attends to the ambitious mathematics teaching practices (MTPs)(e.g., selecting and analyzing tasks, posing purposeful questions, responding to student thinking).
Annotate (i.e., read, mark up, and make notes) the teacher's guide with a particular practice or practices in mind
Analyze the session’s or day’s implementation of the ambitious MTPs through video
Plan and rehearse the ambitious MTPs with adults or elementary students
Use the Internalization Guide and/or Planning Guides to simulate the range of teaching tasks from planning through reflecting on learning and next steps.
Each Internalization Guide supports educators to preview the learning; make sense of the mathematics; and represent the story of the unit or month they are internalizing.
Each Planning Guide begins with (1) identifying the learning goal and proceeds by (2) doing the math, (3) envisioning the session or day, and (4) planning for facilitation. Each concludes with (5) reflecting on student thinking and potential next steps.
Plan and rehearse implementation of a Bridges session, Number Corner day, or a routine to provide prospective and preservice teachers opportunities to practice teaching in lower-stakes settings.
Plan a whole group discussion using anticipated or actual student work, aligned to identified learning goal(s), strategies, or representations, and opportunities to highlight student competence.
