Hello! My name is Krista Hargis, and I am proud to serve as a School Counselor here at Mathews Elementary for grades 5-7.
I’m a wife, mom to two wonderful MCPS students, and stepmom to three amazing adult children. I was born and raised in Virginia and have had the opportunity to travel from the West Coast to the East before settling here in beautiful Mathews County, a place I’m happy to call home.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis with a minor in Criminal Justice from Purdue University, while pursuing my Master’s in Education for School Counseling from Grand Canyon University. My counseling approach is rooted in trauma-informed practices, blending both solution-focused and person-centered techniques to support students in reaching their fullest potential.
My heart truly lies with our wonderful families and precious children. I am so grateful to be part of a community that entrusts me with the honor of supporting and guiding your students each day.
While I’ve worked in various counseling roles, my time here at MCPS has been especially rewarding. It’s a joy to walk alongside our students as they grow, learn, and discover who they are.
Thank you for letting me be a part of your child’s journey, and for making this school such a special place to be!
