Lunch groups are offered as a way to provide peer support. These groups do not provide intensive therapy, but are a way for kids to learn new skills in a smaller setting. Sometimes we discuss how to control our anger, sometimes we discuss how family changes affect us, and sometimes we talk about how to get along better with family and friends. Regardless, we try to listen and learn something new from each other.
All counseling is confidential. It is a service provided for the students and does not become a part of their school records. State law mandates that all school personnel report suspected child abuse/neglect or threats of harm to oneself or others. These are the only exceptions to confidentiality.
Groups are held during your child's lunch period one-two days a week for approximately 6-8 weeks. Students miss no academic time while participating in these groups.
Topics for groups change based on school and student need. Needs assessments are sent out to parents and staff in September and groups are planned to start in October. Please note that all groups listed on the needs assessment may not be able to be provided due to student need and scheduling. I will do all that I can to meet as many student needs as possible.

If your child is chosen to participate in a group, an opt out form will be sent home about a week ahead of time. If you DO NOT wish for them to participate, please sign and return the opt out form by the due date provided.
If your child is participating in groups, each week a letter is sent home after group for parents/guardians/families to better know what students have been taught and how to reinforce those skills at home.
