Please remember that our classes will be going outdoors for Recess. They will spend about 20 - 30 minutes playing outdoors. Be sure that your child will be dressed for the chillier weather.
Please do not send "hard candies", cough drops, etc. with your child. They are choking hazards. In a busy classroom or lunchroom, their choking may not be noticed promptly. Students who are choking cannot make noises or sounds to alert others, so it may go unnoticed.
Please be sure that the last thing your student does before he/she leaves for school is use the bathroom. They should also wash their face and, especially, hands. Avoid sending germs from home into school by washing hands BEFORE leaving for school. Keep school germs out of your home by having students wash their hands AS SOON AS they come home.
Some children are asking to use the bathroom even as soon as 15 - 30 minutes after our class bathroom time. If it occurs too often, I will let you know because this frequency may be caused by a health issue. Sometimes, it may be because the child does not completely empty his or her bladder. They should take the time they need when they use the bathroom. We do not hurry them, except when they are "playing" in the bathroom - fooling with the soap, fixing their hair, etc.
Bathroom issues
Please try to have your student should use the bathroom before he or she leaves home. Unless your child is attuned to his or her bathroom needs, and tells me, the next time they will have an opportunity to use the bathroom is at 9:30 - snack/bathroom time. Students can let me know that they need to use the bathroom when we are in the classroom but it is difficult to do so as we are moving from place to place, e.g. the gym, church, etc.
If your child has difficulty with toileting and cleansing themselves, I can provide wipes if and when they ask for them. I cannot assist them, however.
Your child MUST have a full set of clothes into which they can change if an accident occurs.
If your child used clothes from this source, please wash and return them so that others may have access to them in an emergency.
I encourage you to send water bottles with your child. If they empty them at snack, they can be refilled in the cafeteria dispenser.
We practice covering coughs and using tissues and sanitizer for runny noses. Please reinforce those health habits at home..
