My name is Emily Golphenee, I'm 24, born and raised in Sandpoint. I'm married to my best friend Cole, and together we have a golden named Leon. We love the outdoors be it skiing, kayaking, disc golf, or hiking. I've been in the service and hospitality industry since I was 11 years old when I started working for a family business. Most recently I spent the last 1.5 years at Schweitzer working as the Manager of Banquet Operations where I was in charge of the catering menu, ordering, staffing, set up and take down of up to 4 events a week. Through that work I really grew to love the process of creating an event from concept to execution. I also love working with people, and I love learning. I'm excited to join this team and learn and work in a new environment.

The Story of the Attractive Nuisance
A name inspired by a fantastic story about a women who has served as a lifelong mentor and friend to the owners of Matchwood Brewing. When Jocelyn was 6 years old, she and her cousins found matches and snuck across the street from her childhood home to a lumber yard in New York state. A small harmless fire turned into a roaring blaze burning the entire yard and engulfing the neighboring gas station in a fiery blaze. The kids scurried back across the street and watched in awe. Their parents were unaware of the blaze’s cause.
When marshals investigated the fire it was clear human impact had been the cause. Jocelyn confessed her mischief and leadership role in starting the fire.
The owner of the lumber yard sought an insurance claim payout. Due to the lack of fencing in the lumberyard, the claim was denied on the basis that the site was deemed an attractive nuisance. An attractive nuisance is a legal term signifying a dangerous condition on a property that may attract children and pose a risk to their safety.
After this term ran as the headline in the local paper, her parents dubbed Jocelyn with the nickname, an attractive nuisance. In honor of her exploratory and risky spirit, we have named her favorite Matchwood beer in honor of her spirit.
As for the owner of the lumberyard, he was forced to change industries, started a flower farm, and became a multi-millionaire. Cheers to attractive nuisances!
Future Swag Options: If we sell glassware and stickers quickly, we will invest in some future swag. Ideas? Send Andrea a DM on Slack!
Matchwood Stickers Arriving, Too! Long-awaited Matchwood stickers will arrive alongside the Attractive Nuisance on July 2.

Cole Hooper to serve as Matchwood's Brewer
Cole Hooper joined the Matchwood Brewing Company team in 2020 as one of our most talented line cooks slaying tickets, enduring high temps, and proving himself to be an amazing asset.
After that summer, Kennden and Andrea approached Cole to join our management team as Kitchen Manager. Cole accepted the position and dug into elevating our kitchen's efficiencies, scheduling, quality of food, and attention to detail. In the Role, Cole carried a significant portion of the BOH responsibilities during our largest growth period in history at Matchwood Brewing.
It was a slay.
In the fall of 2022, we promoted Cole to General Manager where he is better known as the Champion of the Bottomline. In this role, Cole has built administrative, financial and reporting infrastructure that have massively improved our systems, increased the flow and regularity of critical financial and sales data, and began tracking key performance indicators and trends to help us better know and understand our business.
In the winter of 2023, Kennden and Cole began working side-by-side in Production. Cole attended the Craft Brewers Conference and received extensive industry training. And now after six months of training under Kennden, Cole has accepted the position to serve as Matchwood's next Brewer. And we couldn't be happier.
Cole is currently transitioning GM and other administrative responsibilities back to Andrea and Kennden and other members of the Management team. Cole will be brewing full-time starting July 1. This type of transition is only possible with the dedicated leadership of all of the members of our Management team -- shout out to Rose, Katie, and Jesse!
Join us in congratulating Cole on his epic journey of being Matchwood's true Swiss Army Human. Cheers! <3 A&K
