When do English classes meet?

Fall and Spring

• Most Fall and Spring classes are 16 weeks. Some classes are 12 and 8 weeks.  We have classes at school and online.

FALL classes start in August and end in December. 

SPRING classes start in January and end in May. 

• Downtown Day Classes run from 8 AM to 2:30 PM Monday to Thursday, 9 to 1 PM on Friday,  and 9 to 11 AM on Saturday.

• Downtown Evening Classes run from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Monday to Thursday.

Summer Classes

• Summer classes are 6 weeks.  Most classes are at school but a few are online.

  SUMMER classes start in June and end in July.

• Downtown Day Classes run from 9 AM to 1:30 PM Monday to Thursday. 

• Downtown Evening Classes run from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Monday to Thursday. 

What are the class levels?  What is my level?

We have 6 levels of English classes.  Your level is decided by your English test and recommendations from your teachers for continuing students.  

• Level 1:  Beginning ESL Literacy  

• Level 2:  Low Beginning ESL        

• Level 3:  High Beginning ESL

• Level 4:  Low Intermediate ESL

• Level 5: High Intermediate 

• Level 6: Advanced 

How much do classes cost?

• You pay a $9 student fee.

• Each class is about $5.

• You also pay for books for some classes.

What classes should I take?

• Core Community Classes:  When possible, take our three Core classes.  They are Oral Communication, Reading & Writing, and Workshop.

• Concentrated Study Classes:  Some students also take concentrated study classes like Pronunciation, Conversation, and Citizenship.  

• Upper Level Academic and Transitions Classes:  Many Level 3 to 6 students also take upper level academic and transition classes like Academic Grammar and College Prep classes.  The courses help prepare them for studying in programs at MATC or other colleges or universities.
