Ms. Ashley Hughes

Hi I’m Ashley Hughes, one of your MCHS counselors. I’m glad you’ve liked our page and hope that it will help you stay informed with different things going on in our Counselor Corner!

I’m super excited to be a school counselor as it has been a dream of mine for some time. Before this year, I have taught many different science classes, so I am a true nerd at heart- and completely embrace it. I absolutely love to travel, and love to be outside. I have a 4 year old daughter that enjoys all the same things I do, so outside of school, you will find us hiking, fishing, playing in the creek, and swimming. We also love baking, although, we aren’t always the best at it. I’ve set a few fire alarms off over the years.

I also worked at a Vet Clinic for 10 years, so I have a passion for helping animals just as I love helping people. I hope that I can be an ear for you to talk to and a guidance for your future.  I have always been a germaphobe and have used air hugs and air fives for years, so I guess I have been training for social distancing for a while. This year will be unlike any other, but I’m excited about starting and can’t wait to see everyone!

Mrs. Rachel Stanfield

Hi! My name is Rachel Stanfield, and I’m glad to be one of the school counselors at MCHS!

A little bit about me: I grew up in Fairfield, Ohio as the oldest of three kids! I attended Miami University & graduated with a degree in Secondary Language Arts Education. I moved to Maysville in 2004, when I accepted a position teaching English at MCHS. Since then, I’ve earned an ELA National Board certification and a school counseling certification. I continued teaching until May 2019, when I accepted this position. I am married to Chad, who teaches a variety of social science classes. We have one daughter named Maddie, who is the apple of our eye! I am an avid reader who loves to travel!

When I think back to my days in high school, I think about how I only saw my counselor twice: once to request that he send my transcripts to prospective colleges and once to make sure that he had completed the task. That’s it. I truly hope to be the opposite of that (though I don’t mind sending a transcript or 100 lol ). I hope that parents and all of our students feel like they can come to me with both big and small concerns. I hope to share in your students’ successes and be there to help them through a troubling time.

On this website, as the year progresses, I hope that you will return and find helpful school / counseling updates, social and emotional tips and activities, pictures of your students here at school, and many other things! We want this to be a place that promotes positivity, mental wellness, and love for our MCHS families!
