Elmwood Student Chromebook Troubleshooting Guide
Students have the ability to add and manage extensions on their Chromebooks. Here are some suggestions of helpful extensions you might want to consider.
Occasionally extensions can interfere with the operation of your Chromebook. If you notice your Chromebook running slowly or if things just aren't working right, try disabling or removing some extensions and see if things improve.
You can use a screencast to record your Chromebook's screen while you narrate a presentation, to explain a process, or to share your thinking about your work. Beginning with ChromeOS 89, there is a built-in screen recording tool that allows you to record your entire screen or just a portion of it without any additional apps or sites. Click here for step-by-step directions. If you prefer to use a screen recording service with more options, please click here to learn more.
If you click on a Zoom link and it says you're trying to join the wrong meeting, chances are you did not close the Zoom app after your last meeting. If there is a little white line under the app icon, that means it's still running. Follow the directions below to close the app, then click the link again to join your new meeting.
Chromebooks have a built-in split screen feature that can be really helpful if you're on a Zoom meeting and need to see another window open at the same time. Watch this video to learn how to easily view two apps or windows at the same time.
Watch the videos in this playlist to learn how to use a Chrome extension called "StayFocusd" to limit the time you spend on distracting websites. Parents, for more information about managing this extension, email MASD Instructional Technology Coach, Anne Reardon, at annereardon@mbgsd.org.
If your teacher assigns a PDF document for you to read in Google Classroom, you can use the DocHub app on your Chromebook to open and transact with it. Watch this video to learn how.
Recently some students have found that Google Docs is not identifying misspelled words, even if that setting is enabled. If this happens to you, watch this video to learn how to fix the problem.
