Security Council

Under the Charter, the Security Council has primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. The Security Council takes the lead in determining the existence of a threat to the peace or act of aggression. It calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement. In some cases, the Security Council can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security.

Notable delegates,

It is with the utmost pleasure that I welcome you to BAMUN XVII. My name is Maria Fernanda Jaimes and I, alongside my Co-President Santiago Isaza, will be presiding over the Security Council this year.

For years, the Security Council has been associated with words like peace, security, reliability, and comfort. But in recent years there has been one word that has stuck out above all others: uncertainty. With the preparation, passion, participation, and contributions you show during the committee, we will prove the world wrong. After all, as delegates of the Security Council, you all have the duty of igniting sparks of hope in the hearts and minds of people all around the world.

Santiago Isaza

Greetings Delegates,

It’s an enormous honor for me to welcome you to BAMUN XVII! My name is Santiago Isaza and it is with great excitement and pleasure that I say I’ll be presiding, alongside my Co-President Maria Fernanda Jaimes, over the Security Council Committee.

We would like to imagine a world without arguments, disputes, or war, but that’s human nature. We need those disagreements and different thoughts to advance as a human race and reach our ultimate objective, peace.

The Security Council will have disagreements and different opinions, but nevertheless every delegate will ignite sparks of hope to prosper and reach a better future of love and peace. We can’t change history, it’s already written; we can only change the future, and the future will be changed in BAMUN XVII.

If there are any doubts in regards the committee or the model, don’t hesitate to contact me via email:

Sincerely,

Santiago Isaza
