Our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum is part of the middle school experience at Martin Luther School. The program is designed to help students strengthen academic habits, develop positive relationships, and build the skills needed to navigate both school and life.
Focus areas include:
Transition support for grade 5 to 6 and grade 8 to 9 (for students and parents)
Study habits, time management, and organization
Respect for others, healthy friendships, and personal boundaries
Goal setting, individual check-ins, and parent meetings
Conflict resolution, self-advocacy, and communication skills
Coping strategies, stress management, and resilience
Growth mindset, self-awareness, and responsible use of technology/social media
Middle school can be challenging for students, their parents, and teachers. Increased academic demands and social pressures for middle school students impact their identity. They are heavily influenced by peer groups and searching for a place to belong. During these pre-adolescent years, students are beginning to understand who they are and how their thoughts and actions impact others positively or negatively. They are building their communication and critical thinking skills to foster healthy relationships with others and become responsible citizens. Middle school is a time for students to take ownership of their learning and to acquire the appropriate study habits and social skills necessary for success in high school.
