Everyone faces various struggles throughout their lives, but adolescence can be an especially challenging time. Teenagers often lack the coping skills, resources, and support systems that adults might have. It's important to remember that it's okay to ask for help. These programs are in place because many adolescents around the world need them.
Statistics from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization, highlight the prevalence of mental health issues, particularly among teenagers and young adults.
In 2023, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) reported that 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness annually, and 1 in 20 experience serious mental illness. Among youth aged 6-17, 1 in 6 faces a mental health disorder each year, with an average delay of 11 years before receiving treatment. Mental illness rates vary by demographic, with 23.9% of Non-Hispanic White adults and 50.2% of Lesbian, Gay, or Bisexual adults affected. Despite these high rates, only 47.2% of adults with mental illness receive treatment, highlighting significant gaps in mental health care access (NAMI).
