THIS WEEK'S MCS HIGHLIGHTS
Honoring 911
Last week in Media class we honored the heroes of 9/11 by celebrating and focusing on our local heroes. Our visitors included local police officers, fire and rescue EMS and state troopers.ย Students were able to ask questions, talk with our guests, visit police cars, look at and touch police equipment and watch a flying drone! A huge shout out to Officer Williams for making this happen!ย ย
Something BIG is being built in Martin County Schools โand your future could be part of it!
All 8th graders and their families are invited to come discover Martin Innovative Early College High School, learn about the application process, and see how you can graduate with your high school diploma AND college credentials of your choice!

MIEPS Honored Our Grandparents for Grandparents Day!
Weโre Poppinโ into the weekend! Last Friday the Tiger Trolley surprised WPS teachers with popcorn & drinks โ huge thanks to our hardworking teachers and my awesome helper who helped hand out treats!ย
We have the best staff and we like to celebrate them! Happy Friday!ย
Our teachers are getting intentional about the โWE DOโ โ the moment when students take on more of the thinking and learning.
During PLCs, teachers are modeling, collaborating, and asking the big question:
What are our students THINKING, SAYING, and DOING?
Thatโs what growth looks like.
Thatโs what collaboration looks like.
Thatโs what putting students at the center looks like.
Keep leveling up, Tiger Nation!
Pictured: Ms. Gray modeling Reading Horizons for the ELA department, 3rd Grade Math collaborating with Ms. Abby, and 4th & 5th Grade PLCs created the Doing, Saying, Thinking chart.
Big shoutout to Hardisonโs BBQ for always making our Fridays better, and a special thank you for taking care of our lunch today!ย

Congratulations to our first PAWS for Applause winners of the 2026โ2027 school year!
PAWS for Applause recognizes CUBS who are caught doing something awesomeโshowing great character, making good choices, and being positive examples for others!
We are so proud to recognize our first winners! Check out each student below and see why they were nominated for PAWS for Applause!
Kol J: "I saw Kol give Mrs. Adams a hug this morning to start her day."
Teigan F: "for helping his classmates on their laptops when they needed assistance, without being asked"
Kaz H: "I saw him see a mess and get a mop and clean it up on his own."
Our 6th grade MIMS students traveled to Plymouth today to visit Bear-Ology and Godโs Creation Wildlife Museum! Students rotated through exhibits, explored wildlife native to our area, and walked along the Roanoke River to view the replica of the historic Roanoke River Screw Pile Lighthouse.
This experience connects directly to their classroom learning as students study informational texts about the black bear found right here in North Carolina!
Next, theyโll put their learning into action by using what theyโve discovered to design and create a humane bear trap as their culminating project!
Real-world connections. Hands-on learning. MIMS in action!
Lots is happening in the MCHS Media Center!
The Media Center isnโt just a place for booksโitโs a place where Gators connect, collaborate, learn, and grow!
Today, weโve got a little bit of everything happening:
Our school nurse is meeting with students.
Our EL teacher is supporting students and collaborating with teachers.
Our Elective & CTE teachers are working together in PLCs to strengthen instruction and student learning.
And Mr. Spencer is helping students with books, technology, and whatever they need to be successful!
This is exactly what we want our Media Center to beโa welcoming, active space where learning happens in many different ways.
From books to technology, student support to teacher collaboration, thereโs always something under construction in the MCHS Media Center!
Mrs. Patrickโs 8th Grade MIMS students became engineers today for our Operation Rescue Route STEM Challenge!
Using rotations, reflections, and translations, students had to plan, program, test, and redesign a safe route for their rescue robot through a disaster zone.
Real-world problems + math + STEM = learning in action!
When your teachers ask, โCan we dress up today just to bring a little extra excitement to our classrooms?โโฆ the answer is YES!
Because sometimes learning needs a little laughter, a little creativity, and maybe even a princess, a pirate, a few sports fans, and a GATOR!
I love that our MCM folks are willing to be silly, have fun, and do whatever it takes to make middle school a place our kids want to be. Itโs the little things that build relationships, create memories, and make school special.
Our people are pretty awesome
Renaissance Meets the Ninja Turtles!
Fun fact: Did you know the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were named after four famous Renaissance artistsโLeonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael?
Our MIMS 7th Grade Social Studies students took that connection and turned it into a pretty awesome STEAM learning experience!
Students designed their own Renaissance-inspired turtle shells, using each section to showcase the people, ideas, inventions, art, and innovations that helped shape this incredible period in history. And yesโฆsome of these shells were made to WEAR!
This is what we love to seeโstudents creating, connecting, collaborating, and showing what they know in a whole new way.
History + Art + Design + Creativity = Learning that sticks!
Way to go, MIMS Gators!
Many Pathways. Endless Possibilities
Art, music, and technology come together in STEAM!
Our Jamesville students have been exploring different ways to create and express themselves! Students created artistic response pieces while listening to music and used Google Chrome Music Lab to experiment with sound and create music of their own!
From art and music to technology and hands-on learning, there are so many ways for our students to create, explore, discover, and shine in STEAM!
For the month of September Ms. Berry's class has been working on everything apples! Friday they became scientists and had their science experiment of the year and made apple volcanoes.ย
Now THAT is engagement!
Our Jamesville 5th graders were seriously focused as they used technology in STEAM to create their own music! From collaborating with classmates to experimenting with different sounds and proudly sharing their finished creations, these students were ALL IN

Making MUSIC and exploring the science of sound in STEAM!
Our Jamesville students have been busy learning about pitch, sound, and vibrations through hands-on activities! Students designed and created their own pan flutes and kazoos as they explored how sounds are made and how pitch can change.
We LOVE seeing our students create, experiment, make music, and learn in STEAM!
Choice, collaboration, and learning in action!
Students are learning to select the workspace that works best for them while also working collaboratively with their classmates. We love seeing our studentsย take ownership of their learning!
Music in motion in STEAM at Rodgers!
Our Kindergarten Cubs had so much fun exploring music and tempo during STEAM with colorful ribbons! They moved them fast and slow, high and low, and tossed them into the air as they experienced music through movement!
Learning, creating, moving, and having FUN in STEAM at RES
Another special example of how our CUBS commemorated September 11th at Rodgers!
Throughout the school, our classes took time to learn about and honor this important day in age-appropriate and meaningful ways. In Mrs. Uzzellโs 2nd grade class, students created special thank-you cards for our first responders:ย red for the fire department, blue for the police department, and white for the sheriffโs department.
When put together, the red, white, and blue cards represented our country working together to honor, serve, and support one another.
We are proud of the many meaningful lessons in remembrance, gratitude, and unity that took place across Rodgers!
CONGRATULATIONS, MRS. DAIL!
We are so proud to celebrate Mrs. Jessica Dail, who has been selected as Martin County Schoolsโ Kโ5 Outstanding Math Teacher of the Year!
Mrs. Dail wasย recognized at school last week and was honored again at tonightโs Board of Education meeting! She was described as an engaging teacher whose classroom you simply didnโt want to leave - and we couldnโt agree more!
Mrs. Dail makes math meaningful, engaging, and FUN for her CUBS each and every day.ย Rodgers is so fortunate to have her!ย Help us give Mrs. Dail a HUGE congratulations on this well-deserved honor!
Rodgers Elementary celebrated International Dot Day today!
Our halls were filled with polka dots, creativity, and imagination as our CUBS used a single dot as the starting point to create some AMAZING artwork!
And the fun isnโt over yet! More pictures are coming as students continue completing fun Dot Day projects in STEAM all week long!
So much learning AND fun happening at Rodgers!
Our CUBS have been busy learning, creating, collaborating, problem-solving, and having fun as we kick off this UN-BEE-LIEVABLE 2026โ2027 school year!
We love seeing our CUBS engaged and excited about learning!
Bringing reading to life with STEM!
After reading about rainforests, our students used what they learned to create rainforest animals during a small-group STEM activity!
We love seeing our CUBS read, learn, create, and make connections in such a fun, hands-on way!
Today, our 5th graders learned about Patriot Day and the events of September 11, 2001. Officer Wilkerson, Ms. Green, Mrs. Byrum, and Mrs. Bedward shared their personal memories of that day, while students shared stories their own families had passed along to them.
Students reflected on patriotism, remembrance, and the bravery of our first responders, then created mini posters showing why they are proud to be Americans and thankful for our heroes. They also created special 9/11 memorial ribbons.
A meaningful day of learning, reflection, and remembrance for our CUBS
5th Grade Mathematicians at Work!
Our 5th graders created their own polling questions (either numerical or categorical) and then became data collectors as they surveyed their classmates! Then, they uses the data they collected to create and analyze graphs.
Our 2nd graders in Mrs. Brittโs class took time today to remember Sept. 11 and Patriots Day They participated in thoughtful activities and we all observed a moment of silence this morning to honor all those affected. Weโre so proud of our students' respect and empathy.ย
Weโre Poppinโ into the weekend! Last Friday the Tiger Trolley surprised WPS teachers with popcorn & drinks โ huge thanks to our hardworking teachers and my awesome helper who helped hand out treats!ย
