WILLIAMSTON, N.C. — Martin County Schools is proud to announce the appointment of LeSeldric Farmer as the new Head Girls Basketball Coach at Martin County High School.
A familiar face in Martin County athletics, Farmer brings more than a decade of coaching experience and a deep commitment to student-athletes. He has coached basketball since 2010, beginning his career in Pitt County Schools before joining the Martin County Schools family.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Farmer into this role,” said Wes Hughes, Martin County High School Athletic Director. “He has a gift for building up young people. It’s not just about winning on the scoreboard. Coach Farmer wants to see our students grow, work as teammates, and learn the game they are playing. As a staff member, his strong work ethic—something our students see every day—sets a powerful example. We know he will bring a great deal to Martin County High School athletics as a head coach.”
Farmer’s coaching journey in Martin County reflects steady growth and a willingness to serve wherever students need him:
•2022–2023: Assistant Basketball Coach, South Creek High School
•2023: Head Baseball Coach, South Creek Middle School
•2023–2024: Assistant Basketball Coach, Martin County High School
•2023–2026: Head Basketball Coach, Martin County Middle School (A & B Teams)
•2025–2026: Assistant Football Coach, Martin County Middle School
Leading the Martin County Middle School A and B Teams, Farmer posted a combined 40–20 record and guided his teams to a strong list of accomplishments: one undefeated season, one conference tournament championship, two regular-season conference championships, a B-team runner-up finish at the Pattillo Christmas Tournament, and 18 total All-Academic Conference selections — a point of particular pride for a coach who champions the student-athlete.
Farmer joined Martin County Schools in 2022.
Mr. Lucas Berrini’s Media Class at Martin County Middle School welcomed WITN News Director Clayton Bauman for a special behind-the-scenes conversation about broadcast journalism.
Students shared their early video projects and their big plans for the class, while Mr. Bauman shared his journey into television news and what it takes to keep a newsroom moving each day across Eastern North Carolina.
And for a couple of students, the lesson got even more hands-on — with the chance to experience what it’s like on both sides of the camera!
Thank you, Mr. Bauman, for investing your time in our students, and thank you, Mr. Berrini, for creating experiences that open doors, spark interests, and broaden horizons.
This is what learning beyond the classroom looks like!
Good finish today for the win over Bear Grass Charter! Great matches all around.

Your voice matters—and it helps us build a stronger future for every student.
Martin County Schools is asking parents and families to take just a few minutes to complete our brief “Your Voice Matters. Together, We Build Tomorrow.” survey.
Your feedback will help us understand what is working well, identify opportunities for growth, and continue improving the educational experience we provide for our students and families.
The survey should take approximately five minutes to complete. If you have children attending more than one school—or multiple children in our district—please complete a separate survey for each child and school.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. Follow this link to complete the brief survey: https://bit.ly/MCSParentSurvey
When we listen, learn, and work together, we build tomorrow.
A huge shoutout to our Martin County Middle School Band and our incredible band directors for braving the heat last night and bringing the energy to the game!
We are so proud of these students for showing up, playing hard, and representing MCM with pride—and so thankful for the directors who lead, encourage, and support them every step of the way.
Way to go, Gators! Stronger Together!

STEAM in PreK! Pre-K Engineers worked on a building tower challenge. We may be small but our towers are tall!
Serious thinking was happening in the Martin Innovative Middle School hall today, as sixth-grade English Language Arts students in Mrs. Danyel Moose’s class took a more active approach to analyzing text.
After reading an excerpt from The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis, students were challenged to think about how a character responded to changes and difficulties within the passage.
But instead of simply discussing the question from their seats, Mrs. Moose turned the classroom into an interactive learning space. Words that may—or may not—have described the character’s response were posted around the room. In small groups, students moved from station to station, discussing each possibility before choosing the word they believed best fit the character’s response.
Then the class came back together to compare choices, explain their reasoning, and dig even deeper into the text.
It may look like a simple activity, but there’s a lot happening here: movement, conversation, collaboration, critical thinking, and evidence-based reasoning.
Taking that hands-on, active road to understanding isn’t just a practice—it’s a key identifier of a Martin Innovative Middle School classroom.
Creative CUBS at work!
Our Kindergarteners had so much fun creating apples as they learned about the letter A! They used their creativity while practicing an important early literacy skill.
A is for APPLE, ART, and AWESOME Kindergarteners!

PLC Spotlight at Martin County High School!
Today, our MCHS teachers came together for a powerful Professional Learning Community (PLC) focused on one of the most important parts of effective instruction: connecting standards to what happens in the classroom.
Our teachers explored ways to:
Scaffolding standards
Strengthen academic vocabulary
Use instructional strategies
The goal is simple: stronger instruction, deeper learning, and better outcomes for our Gators.
We are proud of the collaboration, reflection, and commitment our teachers bring to their classrooms every day!
Level up! Constructing excellence!
So much learning AND fun happening at Rodgers!
Our CUBS have been busy learning, creating, collaborating, problem-solving, and having fun as we kick off this UN-BEE-LIEVABLE 2026–2027 school year!
We love seeing our CUBS engaged and excited about learning!
What a start! Over the last eight days, our scholars have been leading the Pledge of Allegiance, exploring force and motion, making inferences and writing summaries, beginning Number Corner, creating their own Coats of Many Colors in Music, discovering Battle of the Books titles in Media, playing dodgeball in PE, and exploring rockets and lines in STEAM. And the learning keeps going!
A reminder for NEXT WEEK: There is no school Monday for the holiday. Third graders will take the BOG (Beginning-of-Grade) assessment Wednesday. Friday is a 12:00 noon early release for all students.
Here’s a look back at our first eight days!
But wait, there's more!
Mrs. Speight's class read the book "I Promise" and worked in groups to see which group could make the longest paper chain. The class started by planning out what they would need. Each part of the paper chain had to include one fact about someone in the group. They then held them up and compared to see whose was the longest
Have you ever seen a caterpillar transform into a butterfly? Our little investigators have been exploring our pollinator garden for Chrysalis and are amazed at the full transformation into butterflies! Through hands-on STEAM activities, they’re learning the life cycle, observing changes, and celebrating nature’s wonders
We celebrated the life and legacy of Dolly Parton last week — and we went all out in PINK! From sparkly outfits to favorite Dolly songs, it was a joyful tribute full of laughter and memories.
