Chalmers University of Technology has two graduation ceremonies per year to pay tribute to all the newly graduated students who have obtained their degree from Chalmers. The ceremony is held in RunAn in the student union building at the Johanneberg campus. Afterwards there's a three-course dinner in the student union restaurant.
Those who can participate in the graduation ceremony are graduated bachelors, naval commanders, technology graduates, masters, civil engineers and architects. Foreign master students can also participate.
Chalmers was granted the right to award the doctorate in 1940. Up to and including 2019, 9 Jubilee doctors, 3,279 technology doctors, 353 philosophy doctors, 3 economics doctors, 1 medicine doctor and 213 technology honorary doctors were promoted.
The annual recurring promotion ceremony takes place in May or June. On this occasion, the Chalmers Medal is also awarded and the year's research supervisor is appointed. Following the promotion act itself there is a banquet.
To welcome new professors to Chalmers, a ceremony will be held with a subsequent banquet. Chalmers holds a Professor's installation every two years.
Through this ceremony, Chalmers aim to honor those who have been selected to represent their subject areas and make their research profiles visible to colleagues and the general public. At the installation ceremony, professors, research professors, adjunct, affiliate and artistic professors as well as professors of practice and guest professors who started their activities at Chalmers will be installed and presented.
