The rules aren't just about what to do & what not to do. There are also rules about how books are shelved!
Call numbers are the address of the book. If you understand call numbers, you can find any book you want in our library! Remember, call numbers aren't necessarily numbers! We only call them that because everything was once shelved using the numbers of the Dewey Decimal System!
The only type of call number not mentioned in the picture on the left is GN! GN means Graphic Novel! Graphic Novels are similar to comic books and they're located at the end of our picture book section between the strips of splatter paint tape. They will always be labeled with GN on the call number.

How do we find what we want?
Destiny is what our computerized library catalog is called. This is how we keep track of the books people have checked out and what books we have in our library. The system also allows you to look up things so that you can find them on the shelf! To learn how to do this, watch the video on the left!
You can do this yourself when you have time. You will use the iPads in the green "Tech Tub" over by the library cards. However, many times you will need to just ask Ms. Crystal because she's a little faster at looking things up because she has had LOTS of practice over the years!
Ms. Crystal can't protect the library all by herself! She needs your help! Take care of your books and help take care of the library. Watch the video above to learn how you can help!
The ultimate library superheroes become Library Club members in 5th grade.
We don't always have to be quiet, but it can really help us concentrate on what we're doing when we aren't distracted by the noises around us. When we're working at our tables, we may sometimes use this website to help us monitor our noise levels. Keep it under 3 "shushes" during your library time & you might get a class ticket! (The shushes only count when Ms. Crystal says, "Strike 1!" or 2 or 3. She keeps track of them by her computer.)
