I’m a postdoctoral researcher exploring how black corals build remarkable strength without using minerals. These deep-sea corals create flexible skeletons from chitin and proteins, thriving in the low light and strong currents of the mesophotic zone. My work uses imaging, spectroscopy, and mechanical and biochemical techniques to reveal how these organic frameworks provide both structure and defense. I’m inspired by the idea that understanding this natural resilience could lead to the design of new, sustainable materials.
Beyond my research, I write for Little Big Science, an Israeli platform dedicated to making scientific discoveries accessible and engaging for everyone.
