MTPS was awarded the Developing Resiliency with Engaging Approaches to Maximize Success (DREAMS) Grant for the 2nd year in a row through the NJ Department of Children and Families! As a result, two staff, one from each middle school, was formally trained to teach the Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA) to staff. During the 2023-2024 school year, year 1 of our DREAMS grant, two elementary staff were also trained.
The 2024-2025 school year focused on building a DREAMS Champion Team with a goal of energizing key members of the school community. This team helped to turnkey Nurtured Heart Approach concepts to building-based staff members. Nurtured Heart is modality developed by Howard Glasser as an ideal tool for building social emotional safety, competence, and relational connectedness. The goal is to transform negativity and help shift perspectives to recognize the innate and unique forms of intelligence and strengths our students already possess, while assisting students through the process of self-actualization and creating an environment where students are intrinsically motivated.
This is done through:
Building Relationships- with RIGHT SIDE UP energy.
Building Inner Wealth- The primary goal and intention of NHA. Inner wealth encompasses self-esteem and self-confidence.
Creating a Portfolio of Success- By intentionally recognizing first hand experiences of success, it builds children's portfolios of success. Any moment is an opportunity to create success.
