Basic Continuity

Each multi-meter is different, but they all (probably) have a continuity check. This simply checks to see if there is continuity (a connection) between whatever the two probes touch.

Look for a sound like symbol and switch to that. If you touch the probes together, you should get a reading. On some multi-meters you will also get a beep. On my no-name multi-meter, I need to hit a function button to turn on the beep.

You can now touch the probes to various parts of the wire and connectors. If it beeps, there is a connection. Probe between every possible combination to ensure your cable has the connections you want it to have.
