7th Grade Math

7th Grade Math on Royal River Team

The 7th Grade math curriculum is the best! We cover operations with rational numbers. These numbers are all around us even if they all belong on a number line and understanding them helps us make sense of the world.

Digging into equations and expressions, which is tied to the learning done in 6th grade with solving one step equations and helps us get ready for functions in 8th grade, is awesome. We work with the distributive property to generate equivalent expressions and fluidly move between expression forms to look for equivalence.

Geometry has us understanding triangles and the conditions for a unique triangle. We learn about Pi and how circumference and diameter are related. We calculate area to better understand the differences between surface area and volume.

We continue our understanding of rate and ratio to learn about directly proportional relationships that look absolutely beautiful on a coordinate grid! It's an introduction to the linear equation where we see for the first time the impact a constant has on an equation in y=kx form.

Math is meant to be fun and engaging, but the reality is that is can create a lot of anxiety for learners. We spend time building a math culture to understand that the answers are the least important part of learning math. To learn more about this thinking, please visit Parent Resources at YouCubed.
