Special Education Parent Advisory Group
Regional SEPAG Mission Statement
Mission Statement: As a regional Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG), our mission is to foster collaboration and open communication among students, families, educators, caretakers, and community members to promote inclusion, understanding, and comprehensive support for all students with special needs.
We are a unified organization dedicated to empowering families as equal partners in nurturing the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—through an all-encompassing network of care, support, and advocacy.
What is SEPAG (Special Education Parent Advisory Group)?
The Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG) is a collaborative partnership that brings together parents, guardians, educators, school administrators, and community members to support and improve educational experiences for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs. SEPAG provides families with a meaningful voice in shaping special education programs, policies, and practices within the school district. Through open communication, information sharing, and collaboration, SEPAG works to build positive relationships between families and school leadership while promoting inclusion, understanding, respect, and equal educational opportunities for all students. The group also serves as a valuable resource for families seeking information about Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, special education services, and other resources that support their children's academic, social, and emotional development.
The primary goal of SEPAG is to ensure that parents' voices are heard, valued, and represented in decisions that affect the broader special education community. Rather than addressing individual student concerns, SEPAG focuses on identifying common challenges, recognizing opportunities for improvement, and providing constructive feedback to the school district regarding programs, services, accessibility, and student support. SEPAG also creates opportunities for parents to connect with one another, share experiences, participate in educational workshops, and gain access to helpful resources. By encouraging active parent participation and strengthening partnerships between families and educators, SEPAG strives to create a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive school environment where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
