Group counseling takes place with two or more students who are working towards a common goal of improving a set of social skills. Whether it is a "Friendship Group" where students work together to discuss how to be a positive friend/how to make friends, or a "Worry Group" where two or more students all deal with anxiety/worry during the school day. These groups are a great way for students to connect and understand that they are not alone in their feelings. Our goal is to empower students and show them that they have the tools inside them and they just need a little help to know how to use them!
Our groups are always kept confidential* . During our first meeting, we set group rules which always includes that no information is to be shared so that all students feel they are in a safe place. Parental permission for participating in groups is needed.
*All students are informed that information in our groups is kept confidential unless information is shared that: 1. They are going to hurt themselves 2. They are going to hurt someone else or 3. Someone is hurting them. If this happens, they know that it is our job to share with other adults to make sure that everyone is safe at all times to the best of our ability. If you have any questions about what is being discussed in our groups, please reach out :)
