1. Who is eligible to register for Vocational Educational programmes?

Any learner, who is interested in pursuing a Vocational Education programme can register as per the entry requirements in terms of minimum qualifications, as given at Table I on page 27 onwards. Minimum age for admission varies from 14 years to 18 years depending upon the programme selected. There is no upper age limit for the Vocational Courses. NIOS does not take any responsibility with regard to employment or the provisions of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986.


2. When can I take Admission?

You can take admission online throughout the year.


3. How do I know which course to register for?

You can choose a course depending upon your interest and requirement. List of vocational courses is given on page 27 onwards.


4. How many vocational programmes one can register at a time?

You can pursue single vocational programme at a time.


5. From where do I obtain my study material?

Your Accreditated Vocational Institute (AVI)/Special Accredited Institute for Educationally Disadvantaged (SAIED) will give you the study material.


6. Where can I get my practical training?

Your AVI/SAIED will organize practical training and Personal Contact Programmes for you, which are compulsory to attend to appear in the public exam.


7. Can I change my AVI/SAIED or course after admission?

No. You will not be able to change your AVI/SAIED or course after confirmation of admission. Therefore, choose your AVI/SAIED and course(s) carefully.


8. When can I appear for the exam?

You may appear for examination (after paying the required examination fee) as per your convenience after completing the requisite study period. Examinations are conducted twice a year, in April–May and then in October–November. You can avail as many as nine chances to clear your course in five years of the registration period.


9. What certificate will I get after passing a course?

The Government of India has vested NIOS with the authority to examine and certify students registered with it in vocational, technical and academic courses upto pre-degree level through Resolution No. F-5-24/90 dated 14th September 1990 published in Gazette of India dated 20 October 1990. A copy of the same is available at Appendix-C. They would be given NIOS Certificate/Diploma, as the case may be on successful completion of the course.
