What is Google Voice? A way to make phone calls within the U.S. over the internet using a different phone number. *Requires an active internet connection to use.
Why is this useful? This is the best way to have parents contact you or to make phone calls to parents without using and giving out your personal number.
Step 1: Set up your Google Voice Account on the Web [voice.google.com] using a personal Google account. Click → personal use. (Cannot use your @Manorisd.net account) Follow this tutorial to get your account set up. *Be sure you set up your voicemail greeting while you are here.*
Step 2: Download the Google Voice App on your phone (iOS & Android compatible)
Step 3: Sign in to Google Voice on your phone with the personal Google account. You can create a new one specifically for this purpose.
Step 4: Make your first test call to a friend or family member. Then give out your new Google Voice number to parents.
When prompted to sync your phone with the Voice App you can DENY this action.
The Voice app does not have to be open for your phone to ring.
