Please see the photos of our learning! The children are having fun in the sun being mini-scientists  observing the class caterpillars and exploring minibeasts, plants and water. We are so proud of the Reception children of all the efforts they have been putting into their writing about Supertato and minibeasts. They are working towards writing sentences that can be read by others independently.Â

On Wednesday Reception went to the University of East London to have a picnic and to watch planes land and take off. This is one of the 'Making Manor Memories'. The children had the perfect view of City Airport. They watched in awe as the planes jetted off into the summer's sky. Together we wondered where the planes were heading off to and the children asked many questions about aeroplanes and airports. The behaviour of the children was excellent, they represented Stratford Manor well and they remembered their manners with the public.Â

This week, Stratford Manor turned 130! We celebrated by making poems about our school with a group. The children were creative and brave and performed their poems to the whole class. In other news, this half term, we are learning about 'Minibeasts'. We have been identifying minibeasts and discussing the differences between an insect and an arachnid. With help from an adult, the children have been learning facts about minibeasts from the internet and non-fiction texts.

On Wednesday, we went on an educational visit to Discover Children's Story Centre. The children were well-behaved and had a phenomenal time. The children listened attentively to Nadia Shireen's Bumblebear before working together to design their book character and story. After that, the children were invited to the Monster Funfair, an immersive exhibition made completely by monsters! They had the task of finding out who stole all the candy floss!

We commemorated the 80th anniversary of VE Day this week and discussed why peace should be celebrated. We spoke about the present, with peace we can live safe and happy lives, play with our friends, go to school, be with our loved ones, eat and have shelter. The children suggested ways they can be peaceful at school. On Friday afternoon the we celebrated by having a tea party!
This week, we have also been practising using ten frames and revisiting number bonds to 5. We have reconsolidated naming parts of a plant, used oil pastels to imitate Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers' and looked after our bean plants by making sure they have enough water and sunlight. In Literacy, the children used a story map to retell and write Jack and the Beanstalk and they practised writing sentences independently. We have started reading Oliver's Vegetables and we are going to make vegetable soup next week.

Welcome back to school Reception familes. The children have settled in marvellously! On Tuesday is was Earth Day (an unplugged day), the children were surprised and curious to see that the board and the classroom lights were switched off. Together, we discussed why we were using less electricity and other ways we can look after our world. This was followed up by planting bean seeds. We wonder if the seeds will ever grow some flowers.
