It is finally the end of term. We are so proud of the pupils in R Goodall. They have made excellent progress this term and have come far on their learning journey. We were blown away by how well the children performed in the EYFS Christmas Show. The children demonstrated what determined and courageous people they are. Thank you, Reception families, for your ongoing support this year, we hope you have a restful holiday.

Winter has arrived! We have been busy preparing a special Christmas show for you. All the children in Reception have made us so proud, learning the songs and their lines so well. Please help the children practice saying their lines at home.

Please check out the photos from last week's visit to West Ham Memorial park for the autumn walk, one of the 'Making Manor Memories'. This week we have been focusing on learning about people who help us in the emergency services and the composition of numbers to 5.
We are writing a list of the things we need to make a junk model of an emergency vehicle.

This week is 'Road Safety Week' and we have been focussing on learning about lollipop people and road safety as part of the curriculum unit 'People Who Help Us'. We have learned the role of a lollipop person, how to cross the road safely using 'Stop, Look, Listen, Think', and how to 'Be Bright, Be Seen'. This has prepared us well for today's West Ham Memorial Park visit. Please check back later for photographs of the visit.
We have been playing 'Who's got more?' and comparing numbers using the words 'more', 'fewer' and 'equal'.
The fire station role-play area is so much fun. We love saving Stratford Manor from fires.

This week has been jam-packed full of events, on Monday we participated in the two minutes silence for Remembrance Day, Tuesday was Odd Socks Day, and on Thursday we had a visit from a TfL train driver, and on Friday we celebrated Children in Need.

Friday 8th November 2024
We hope you all had a restful half term, it has been lovely to welcome all the children back. The children have started a new curriculum unit called 'People Who Help Us' this half term. In class, we have discussed the occupations of people who help the community, focussing on doctors and soldiers this week. We have been reading Dr Ranj's 'Superhero Like You' and writing prescriptions and medical reports in the writing area. To commemorate Remembrance Day we collaboratively created a poppy wreath displayed on our door, it looks stunning. We have been reflecting on peace and why we remember and thank the soldiers, sailors and air force.

Friday 25th October 2024
It is finally the end of the first half term. All the children in R Goodall have settled into school and the routines so beautifully. All of the Reception team are incredibly proud of the children. We hope you have a restful half-term break, and we will see you again on Monday 4th November. This week has been eventful. We started the week by exploring the school environment by going on a senses walk and talking about what we can hear, including aerophones, car engines and children talking. The main focus this week was learning about Diwali ahead of next week's celebrations. The children were fascinated by the story of Rama and Sita and the different traditions followed by people who celebrate. We ended the week by playing Hide and Seek in the main playground making our first Manor Memory of the year.

Friday 18th October 2024
This week, the children have been enjoying the warmer autumn weather and Making Manor Memories by playing hide-and-seek! There was so much laughter, clever counting and creative hiding spots. Also, we ended the week with pen disco where we work on our physical development, strengthing our pencil grip and core by writing on large paper. We have started reading 'Kipper's Birthday' in Literacy and have been writing party shopping lists, in the curriculum focus activity we finished the 'All About Me' booklet project and for the Maths focus we have been comparing quantities using the words 'more and 'fewer'.
We compared objects to say which one is 'more' or 'fewer'.
We used 'Fred Talk' to help us spell words to write a shopping list for Kipper's birthday.
Alicia produced a fantastic 'All About Me' booklet. Well done Alicia!
In Maths, we were comparing capacity. We measured capacity by seeing how many children could fit in a box.
Friday 11th October 2024
It has been another fabulous week in Reception, I am so proud of the children for the progress they have made so far this year. This week during carpet time, as part of the curriculum unit 'What makes me special?' we have been discussing different homes. The children described their homes and asked and answered questions. In Maths, we have been comparing quantities using classroom objects and they have been revisiting subitising and matching numbers. On Thursday, it was Children's Mental Health Day and thank you to everybody for dressing up the children enjoyed expressing themselves by wearing their special clothes. Remember to check the School Ping for updates about events in the school.

This week we were learning all about our families. The children did a great job talking about their families using full sentences. They also used collage materials to decorate and create a photo frame, they look fabulous in our home corner. Also in Literacy the children wrote about what they love doing on post-it-notes and it was great to learn more about them. In Maths the children used a range of concrete resources to make the number four dot patterns and AB patterns.
Pen Disco was a blast! We are learning how to look after pens and use them for handwriting patterns.
We were using full sentences to say who is in our family. We also asked questitons to find out more.
We wrote about things that we love inspired by the book we are reading called Ruby's Worry.
We are making AB patterns.
We decorated our family photos using our cutting and sticking skills.
We are writing our names and mark making in boxes. We pretended to be on a boat.
We are using simple equipment to observe bugs closely.
We used natural loose parts to represent our families.

This week we have continued learning about our curriculum unit, 'What Makes Me Special?'. This week we have been learning about the Zones of Regulation and what each colour means. The children we talking about what makes them feel happy, calm, sad, angry and excited. We discussed that all feelings are OK but we need to help ourselves feel better so we are in the green zone and we are ready to learn. The children decided to feel better they can ask for help, have a drink, play with a freind or hug Jigsaw Jenie.

Today library books and phonics words are being sent home for the children to practice. Please bring them in on Wednesday to get changed each week. Please send in family photos for next weeks focus activity.

It has been lovely getting to know the children this week during circle times and we have starting learning about our curriculum unit, 'What Makes Me Special?'. We have been talking about our favourite things and what makes us feel happy. Also, we have been using mirrors and photographs to help us describe our facial features and our hair and comparing ourselves to our learning partners. In addition to this we are learning to celebrate what makes us special and learn how to be a good friend.
Dough disco is so fun! It is making our fingers stronger for writing.
We are learning how to handle books with care.
We learned how to name feelings and sorted faces by emotion and explained why.
In the outdoor classroom, we found sap on the tree. Ms Begum helped us research sap.
We are facing our fears and climbing high, developing our gross motor skills.
We are painting to help us remember the characters in the book Lucy Ladybird.

I am so impressed with how well the Reception children have settled in on their first week at school. It is hard to believe that they have only been in our class for a week, they are so ready for the rest of the year!
During our first week of school, we focused on developing confidence, forming relationships with pupils and adults, how to play and learn together, and saying each other's names. The children have been exploring the learning environment and playing lots of circle time games!
