Help prepare your student for their next step, whether that be entering the workforce, college, or military!

Freshman and Sophomore year

Be Informed and Involved:

  • Have your student meet with school counselor and/or college adviser about careers of interest as well as courses that will best prepare them for college

  • Chat with your student about ways to pay for college

  • Ask about dual enrollment and CTC/CTE courses your students can take advantage of

Junior Year

Help student begin to advocate for themselves:

  • Student meets with school counselor and/or college adviser

  • Attend college fair and financial aid events with your student

  • Assist in SAT prep; Khan Academy

  • Arrange campus visits

  • Assist your student in researching the type of education is needed for career their interested in

  • Begin scholarship option search

Senior year

Big decisions need to be made:

  • Campus visits to top choices

  • Student retake SAT, if needed

  • Assist in college application process (some fees may apply)

  • Attend financial aid events with your student (FAFSA)

  • Be sure your student asks for recommendations (teachers, counselors, etc.)

  • Help your student complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible, after October 1

  • Be involved in your students scholarship search and applications

  • Help your student choose a college, career or military option
