The Symphonic Band is the premier band of Manhattan School District 114. Entrance into Symphonic Band is determined by audition and instrumentation needs. All members of this band must pass a basic skill audition with 80% proficiency that are only held some time during the last month of school.
All members of this band are strongly encouraged to take private lessons! Just because a student is in the 7th or 8th grade, does not mean he/she will automatically be in Symphonic Band. The Symphonic Band follows traditional instrumentation. Repertoire from standard writings for wind ensemble to contemporary works will be studied.
Concerts are performed throughout the year. The ensemble also participates in area events, large group contests and takes a trip to participate in conjunction with the theme park located near the contest site. Symphonic Band members are highly motivated to audition for the IMEA Concert Band Festival and the I.G.S.M.A. Solo and Ensemble contests.
This organization currently meets in the morning at Manhattan Junior High from 7:00-8:00am.
Parents and/or organized car pools will need to transport students to morning rehearsals.
