Koru Class - 2024
Welcome to the Koru class site for 2024!
We have 23 students in our class at Mangonui School. Our class has mostly Year 2 students with a few Year 3 students too.
Our kaiako is Jessie Albert (née Maihi). She has been teaching at Mangonui School since 2020 and this is her 10th year of teaching. Mrs Albert is the Mathematics leader and the Assessment for Learning leader in our kura. Mrs Albert loves teaching and learning with our amazing tamariki in Koru class.
On this site you will find some of the resources we use at school, our weekly timetable and the focus of some of our learning too. There will be some photos of us as well.
Thanks for visiting!
Important information
Seesaw is an important way that we share our learning in Koru class. Mrs Albert will send home QR codes so that you can connect to your child's Seesaw journal. You can share the QR code to your child's journal with as many whānau members as you like.
Reading programme - We are following the Better Start Literacy Programme for Year 2 students. This is the first year that the programme has included Year 2 students and so our programme will need to adjust when we have new resources, learning, lessons and books become available. Some students will continue reading the decodable books for the time being while other children may move to the colour wheel books earlier on in the year. Mrs Albert will write notes in reading logs and/or leave bookmarks in reading books to support whānau and tamariki with reading at home. At this stage, children will be reading one book per week.
Library day is Friday- Students can take two books home from the library each week. We return and issue new books each week.
Mrs Albert will send resources to be used at home when needed / requested.
We have school lunches so students only need to bring morning tea to school (unless you have opted out on the form and your child brings their own lunch too).
You can contact Mrs Albert between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm. Contact details will be shared on our class newsletter.
EOTC trips
Rangikapiti pā is a special place for Mangonui School. We love heading up to this maunga and having a korero about the amazing stories and history of this area. Here we are as a junior school on one of our trips. Matua Tiger met us there so he could share his amazing knowledge about Rangikapiti Pā with us.
EOTC trips are an important part of our learning at Mangonui School.
