Fabric Bag

About two years ago, I took a "Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine" class at Makersmiths and learned to make fabric bags. To refresh my memory on how to make them, I searched YouTube and found several movies. I followed the directions on Chicknscratch to make the bags you see below. The pictures below are not intended as step-by-step directions, but they do show how simple it is to make fabric bags. The black cotton fabric with orange-red and white rectangles came from a friend from Mozambique, Africa. It is rather stiff material and really helps the bag keep its shape. I just used regular quilting cotton fabric for the inside liner/rim of the bag. To keep the rim folded over, I added buttons to the right and left side of the bags. Please see the end of this page for resources to help you get started making your fabric bags!

Two 10 x 18 inch rectangles, one stiched on to a 10x18 inch piece of foam

Cut the bottom corners of the inside and outside pieces

Sew the inside liner's bottom corners

This is the inside bottom of the bag

Sew the outside piece the same way

Turn the inside liner piece right side and place it in the outside piece. Clip them together before sewing the edges together.

Turn the inside piece inside out then stuff it back into the outside piece.

Stitch the opening closed

Add a button on each side

This keeps the turned over edges together

Storage Bag

For my second bag, I used quilting cotton for both the inside and outside pieces. Now I have a storage bag to store clean and ready-to-use masks!
