Pi, named after the number π, 3.14159..., is just as unique and fascinating as its numerical counterpart. This season, we selected fourteen mission components that we wanted to accomplish: Coral Nursery Tree, Water Sample, Coral Reef, Coral Nursery, Scuba Diver, Shark, Raise the Mast, Artificial Habitat, Unexpected Encounter, Change Shipping Lanes, Plankton Sample, Angler Fish, Send Over the Submersible, and Seabed Sample. We designed innovative features to accomplish these missions, coded in Python to give us better control over the robot, and worked through multiple iterations to combine our ideas into the best approach.
Our oceans serve many purposes: creating a habitat for thousands of marine species, providing a method of transport, and producing water that gives the Earth life. Sadly, circulating ocean currents trap trillions of individual pieces of plastic waste in ever-growing trash islands. Plastic waste has a profound effect on ocean life, people, and our environment. We must unite and take action to eliminate plastic pollution and restore the health of our oceans and planet. Team Nano’s integrated solution will clean our oceans, create something lasting, innovative, and impactful with recycled plastic, improve our planet, and help the people living on it!
