Weeks of 12/1 - 12/19
Monday 12/1: Welcome back!, Discuss where we left off, Goal: Finish Gauss's Law and then Complete as much of Unit H as possible before semester exam, Discuss Cylindrical Conducting Shells (Co-Axial Cables), Reminder of how to use Gauss's Law to solve for the Electric Field, Discuss Non-Uniform Charge Distributions, Discuss how to find the net charge enclosed for a non-uniformly charged sphere, Discuss the cases of the Gaussian Surface less than and bigger than the charged sphere
HW: Problem # 2 of Spherical Non-Uniform Distribution of Charge
Tuesday 12/2 (1/2 period): Review HW, Discuss Cylindrical Distribution of Non-Uniform Charge, Discuss Slabs of Charge
HW: Problem # 2 of Cylindrical Non-Uniform Distribution of Charge
Wednesday 12/3: Sub Plans for this period:
The students will be beginning the unit on electric potential. They should pick up an objective packet (which has a place for them to take notes and do example problems.)
The students should begin by watching a few videos from the class website on the topic of electric potential and electric potential energy. They should watch videos H1 & H2, which take about 10 minutes each.
When they are finished watching the videos, the students should be able to do one of two things:
Do objective problems H1 & H2. The notes and solutions to the problems for the objective packet can be found on the class website.
The students can begin their WebAssigns for this unit. I have assigned 3 of them for this unit (all of which are due next week.)
Thursday 12/4 (1/2 period): Discuss Objectives H1 & H2 which you watched videos on. Discuss more on Electric Potential Energy and Electric Potential, Discuss H3, Electric Potential as a path integral,
HW: WebAssigns H1 & H2
Friday 12/5: More work in the objective packets, Discuss energy conservation and the application to electric potential energy, use the idea of potential as a path integral to find potential difference and apply energy conservation, Discuss electric potential for a uniform electric field (How does the path integral change for this case?), Discuss Equipotential lines/surfaces, Do practice problem for objective H7, Introduce & Start PhET Simulation for electric potential (You do NOT have to finish this over the weekend--There will be more class time given for this simulation!)
HW: WebAssigns H1 & H2
