Innovation Goals & Objectives
The ability to promote and foster innovation was identified as a key opportunity for US:IT. A total of (2) Goals and (12) discrete objectives have been defined for this category.
4.1. US:IT will be a leader of innovation within the University of Maine System

- 4.1.1 Encourage innovation by empowering employees to spend a percentage of their time on professional growth opportunities
- 4.1.2 Establish annual “Innovation Incubator” program, to encourage staff to propose strategies to improve service delivery and meet the needs of the UMS community
- 4.1.3 In collaboration with faculty and Instructional Design, develop next-generation standards for classroom technology and Active Learning Spaces to be adopted by the UMS
- 4.1.4 Lead effort to inventory and assess currently utilized texting platforms across UMS to develop a recommendation on a standard platform to be officially supported by US:IT
- 4.1.5 Expand access to and use of ACG cloud computing resources to support research and education

- 4.2.1 Develop and implement plan to improve accessibility and usability of the MaineStreet environment
- 4.2.2 Develop a comprehensive framework to systematically review and assess current and proposed technology-enabled solutions for compatibility with assistive technology to improve compliance with university Board of Trustee policy and access to higher education services provided by UMS to persons with disabilities
- 4.2.3 Evaluate practicality and viability of leveraging the myCampus DXP portal as the primary gateway to PeopleSoft instances and services to replace the PeopleSoft integration hub and improve access
- 4.2.4 Develop plan to ensure that current online uStores and uPay sites in Touchnet will be updated to meet UMS Accessibility policy
- 4.2.5 Complete upgrade of the MaineStreet Campus Solutions module to version 9.2 to improve reliability, stability and performance
- 4.2.6 Identify and document the tools, techniques, and standards necessary to create accessible web applications and adhere to WCAG 2.0 AA and ARAI 1.1 standards
- 4.2.7 Complete a redesign of www.maine.edu to ensure full website accessibility compliance
