Collaboration Goals & Objectives

Increasing collaboration and engagement across the UMS to inform strategic priorities and directions was identified as a core requirement for the success of US:IT. A total of (4) Goals and (19) discrete objectives have been defined to foster greater collaboration.

3.1. US:IT will promote active collaboration with stakeholders to optimize alignment of IT activities and prioritize services to support System and Campus strategic initiatives

  • 3.1.1 Develop an enterprise-wide planning and project prioritization process to ensure allocation of resources is aligned with UMS strategic directions.
  • 3.1.2 Establish and pilot a “service sprint” methodology, with the intent of rapidly addressing the number of open issues for a specific campus or department
  • 3.1.3 Engage with website business owners to assess functional needs and promote the value of a unified Content Management System
  • 3.1.4 Collaborate with campus stakeholders to identify redundant and/or legacy services as candidates for consolidation, sunsetting or replacement
  • 3.1.5 Engage with key stakeholders to implement a unified campus card e-commerce platform to better serve UMS students
  • 3.1.6 Modify IT project charter template to incorporate language that identifies the System or Campus strategic objective/s that a proposed project will impact to ensure alignment and prioritization
  • 3.1.7 Enhance recruitment and admissions activity through partnership and collaboration with enrollment management teams to best leverage available tools and data


3.2. US:IT will partner with stakeholders to establish a supportable and sustainable technology baseline designed to meet the needs of campus communities

  • 3.2.1 Develop annual baseline technology needs report for each campus to assess requirements for new/improved support technologies and inform IT resource and budget planning
  • 3.2.2 Establish a liaison role for service owners to partner with campus ITSS teams to promote collaboration opportunities and to better align resources
  • 3.2.3 Enhance posture as a primary resource available to UMS researchers and other collaborating agencies


3.3. US:IT will pursue opportunities to actively contribute to the mission of the University

  • 3.3.1 Establish student internship programs to provide real-world experiential learning opportunities for UMS students
  • 3.3.2 Develop plan to leverage current EBS spectrum license lease to provide free wireless home internet service to 100 students who live in a RedZone service area
  • 3.3.3 Sponsor annual workshop for UMS and state-wide scientific research community to promote and direct the Maine regional science & research network
  • 3.3.4 Actively support the launch and growth of online programs for UMS campuses through collaboration and engagement with Academic Partnerships


3.4. US:IT will provide solutions designed to empower stakeholders

  • 3.4.1 Deploy, enhance and improve self-service options for students within the MaineStreet environment
  • 3.4.2 Develop guidelines, policies and/or procedures for Listserv administration to inform Listserv owners
  • 3.4.3 Develop and publish accessible web Content Management System guidelines and training documentation to empower web content editors and ensure a consistent baseline of knowledge and standards
  • 3.4.4 Develop plan to research, implement and leverage PeopleSoft Workflow capabilities to promote self-service options within the MaineStreet platform
  • 3.4.5 Develop plan to research, implement and deploy a self-service password reset utility
