Can't find the course you need at UMM?
Sometimes courses are not offered during the semester you would like to take them, or you would like to take a class that is offered elsewhere. There are several ways to do that and specific procedures to follow. The following option may be the most direct.

First, if the course is a simple elective to add to your degree credit hour requirement, you may go ahead and search for courses.

However, if it is a required course, you will need to determine if the alternative course is equivalent to the one you need that's not readily available through UMM. You can do this by checking with the University of Maine System's Transfer Course Equivalency tools. There are links to it available on your MaineStreet portal.

Once you get there, you will be able to click the bar to "Find equivalent courses at other institutions." Follow the directions, selecting UMM as the campus to transfer back to, enter the 3-letter course title and 3-digit course number, and hit the search button.

You will get back a list of all approved equivalent courses and the campuses they are available on. Some non-UMS schools may be included, so check them out. If you are doing a general course search and not specifically for distance classes, you will probably need to go to the individual institution to see how and when the course is delivered.

The transfer equivalency tool is also available through the Distance Learning Class Search which can filter the classes for you.
You could also do a regular Class Search and filter for different UMS campuses and select online under the "Mode of Instruction" filter.
If you find a course that will work for you, you will need to file an Away Approval form with the UMM Registrar's Office. Forms are available as downloadable PDFs through the "Student Files" folder on your UMM Portal page.
