Advisory Committee Member - Substance Abuse Prevention and Smoking Cessation

Position: Student Volunteer for Advisory Committee/Work Group

Description: Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA) is a primary prevention non-profit located in Gardiner, ME. HCCA is in search of individuals ages 18-25 to serve on an advisory committee/work group. Healthy Communities of the Capital Area (HCCA) is interested in learning more about substance use prevention and smoking cessation among 18-25 year olds, identifying 2-3 priority issues, and developing strategies to address them in southern Kennebec County. The end product of this project is a plan for the next 2-3 years with strategies to reduce the impact of substance use on people ages 18-25. Involvement from citizens who are aged 18-25 is a top priority for this project.

Candidates must be between the age of 18 to 25, and will classify themselves as one or more of the following categories:

• A student at a post-secondary school
• A parent of young child/children
• An employee (full or part-time) in retail, customer service, or similar entry level work

This position requires:

• Attendance at up to 6 1½ to 2-hour meetings between January and May of 2020. (Meetings will be held in Augusta, Hallowell or Gardiner).
• Participation in confidential conversations to provide observations, feedback, and information about substance use in your age demographic.
• Providing input that will inform messages and materials to resonate with 18-25 year olds
• Help determining dissemination options for these prevention/education messages.
• Assisting in developing a 2-3 year plan to reduce the impact of substance use on 18-25 year olds in southern Kennebec County
