What experience (i.e. class, professor, student group/team etc.) has impacted you the most during your time at USM and why?
"One of the most impactful experiences during my time at USM was studying abroad in Iceland and New Zealand. Being immersed in different cultures, surrounded by incredible landscapes, and stepping outside my comfort zone gave me a new perspective on the world and myself. Studying abroad helped me become more adaptable, open-minded, and confident in taking on new challenges. Traveling to these countries also sparked a deeper passion for sustainability, international business, and entrepreneurship, which continues to influence my goals today."
When I reflect on the most impressionable class I took at USM, it is difficult to choose because many of the business professors at USM played a key role in both my personal and professional development. I am thankful for all the professors, such as Bill Watson and Dr. Amendah, who pushed me to achieve more and who supported my learning and growth.
If I had to select one class that resonated the most with me, it would be Entrepreneurial Thinking with Professor Bilodeau. This course pushed me to think differently, adapt quickly, and gain confidence in my ideas. It was not just about learning business concepts, it was a hands-on experience that challenged me to take risks, embrace failure, and view obstacles as opportunities. Professor Bilodeau’s encouragement and supportive teaching style helped me see entrepreneurship not just as a career path, but as a mindset. This experience strengthened my creativity, resilience, and leadership skills, making me more excited about my future in business."
After graduating from USM, Natalie will be continuing her education through the Accelerated MBA Program at UMaine. She is really excited to deepen her knowledge of business strategy, leadership, and innovation through this program. Natalie is eager to take on leadership opportunities that allow her to use her creative thinking to make a meaningful impact.

What experience (i.e. class, professor, student group/team etc.) has impacted you the most during your time at USM and why?
"Dr. Eklou Amendah has been the most impactful professor I have had throughout my time at USM. Not only are his courses informative and offer students the ability to truly gain insight into the concepts, but he shows a genuine passion for the subjects and teaching students. Dr. Amendah wants to share this passion with his students, and seeks to engage them in his courses. He helped guide another USM student and I through the process of submitting our research to the NEDSI conference, where we placed first in the undergraduate division. Without the teachings and support of Dr. Amendah, we would not have been able to achieve this."
Following graduation with her undergraduate degree, Bella hopes to continue her education and complete her master's degree in planning, policy, and management. Her ultimate goal is to work with non-profit organizations helping to promote their mission and fulfill their purpose. Her hope is to become an effective advocate for individuals and places within the communities she works, allowing her to create lasting positive change.

What experience (i.e. class, professor, student group/team etc.) has impacted you the most during your time at USM and why?
"My time as a residential assistant has been one of the most impactful experiences both socially and personally. I have learned essential skills, like helping groups of students settle into the college environment each year, mediating conflicts, and providing emotional and social support. As much as I have helped my student community, my student community has also shaped how I have assimilated into the American college environment. Building interpersonal relationships here at USM has helped me overcome both language and cultural barriers–some of which were the most challenging during my college experience. Becoming an RA has shown me that no matter the background, each student can belong in the welcoming community of USM."
After graduation, Marcus plans to start his own business either here in the US or in Sweden. One of the advantages of observing both the American and Swedish business environments is that he gets to see, first-hand, the contrast in terms of market opportunity. In other words, Marcus would love to introduce or implement a product or service that exists in the U.S., but doesn’t in Sweden–or vice versa. This way, he could seize the opportunity of discovering a profitable market gap.
