Unplugged Activities

Technical difficulties are an unavoidable part of computer science. In these situations, we recommend using one of our unplugged activities! These activities outline many important computer science skills, while also exercising students computational thinking.

Drones:

While using drones in LearnToMod, it is essential for students to provide clear step by step instructions to the drone, as well have the spatial reasoning to know where the drone is at any time. In the first part of this activity, students create a set of step by step instructions to command a drone. In the second part, students exchange their worksheets and attempt to follow each others instructions.

Scramble:

This activity functions much like the scramble badges in LearnToMod. In this activity, students must cut out, and assemble blocks to create a mod.

Functions Easy and Hard:

In this activity, students use a list of functions and function calls to find a secret number. In the hard version of this activity, students are instructed to use this secret number to further decode a secret message.
