Our Mission

This project was started with the goal of inspiring people to develop a love and apreciation for the natural world.

In the current educational landscape; where remote learning is becoming the new norm, the Dig it! UMF Campus Garden project represents a real experiential learning opportunity for students to get their hands dirty (sometimes literally).

It's a campus green space designed by students, built by students, and maintained by students!

The garden is a place for relaxation, development of spiritual health, and fostering greater connections between each other and to the environment.

Here at the garden, we grow food for the hungry. Harvested crops are donated to food closets and organizations for the community and UMF students.

The UMF Campus & Community Garden is now in its second year. So far we have harvested nearly 250 pounds of organic vegetables, which have been donated to five different community food banks.

In our second year we added a garden shed and greenhouse!

Our seed funding came from a grant through the Boston-based Ella Lyman Cabot Trust. If you'd like to plant the seeds for further success in the garden, you can contribute to the UMF Garden to  Table Project Fund.
