In medical settings, professionals will encounter patients/clients from all different backgrounds. Each individual has their own beliefs, practices, and circumstances that will impact how they interact with healthcare providers or how they view healthcare. In speech-language pathology, for instance, clinicians are always encountering culturally and linguistically diverse clients. These cultural and linguistic differences may impact how individuals are perceived by clinicians, especially when the individual is presenting with qualities that are not considered "standard" in the United States. The assumptions clinicians make about these clients can often lead to misdiagnoses or lack of diagnoses when necessary. Therefore, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals within health-related fields, must practice cultural competence in order to provide their clients/patients with the most appropriate services that fit within their values and beliefs.

How are language, culture, and healthcare related?
In conclusion, based on the information that I have obtained through my completion of this project, I have noticed that language, culture, and healthcare are related in more ways than one. I have seen how individual cultures have distinct beliefs about healthcare, how linguistic barriers can impact care received in medical settings, and in general, how cultural and linguistic differences can play a role in our healthcare system. Furthermore, I have gained a better understanding of how crucial it is to provide patients/clients with culturally competent healthcare, to ensure that they are receiving necessary and appropriate services. So, as a general answer, this is how language, culture, and healthcare are related. With that being said, though, this question is difficult to answer with just a single, straightforward response, as the relationship among these variables is highly dependent on individual preferences or beliefs. Therefore, I have found that when considering the linkage among language, culture, and healthcare, it is best for one to look to the specific cultural and linguistic group that they are studying, in order to getter a better understanding of these relationships.
