Athletic Philosophy

Our Philosophy

It is the mission of Andrew Jackson Middle School to provide students with a challenging and diverse learning environment to prepare students for their future, to promote pride in our school and our community, and to develop the abilities and talents of our students in a safe, supportive and caring environment.

Our athletic program enriches the school’s mission by providing opportunities for building strong student relationships while promoting health and well-being in our school community. These relationships form a critical foundation for social, emotional, and academic success in our classrooms and in real life.

  • We encourage participation of athletes of all skill levels in practice sessions and in our games, meets, and matches.
  • We recognize the varied experiences students bring to our teams and make every effort to conduct our practices to ensure our athletes grow and improve as young men and women.
  • We are not an extension of community leagues and competitive travel programs that exist in our area. We operate under the West Virginia Secondary Schools Athletics Commission (WVSSAC) and Kanawha County Schools Middle School Athletics Conference rules and regulations and make program decisions based upon the goals and objectives of these two organizations that regulate our secondary schools athletic community.
  • We believe that middle school athletes are enriched by participating in varied athletic activities, including those activities and sports that are not familiar to them. We endeavor to create athletic opportunities which support students as they discover their athletic interests and strengths.
